Developed as a fur trading post, Ada transitioned to an upscale suburb of Grand Rapids with a population of over 13,000 people. It is located only 10 miles east of Grand Rapids, nestled in where the Thornapple River merges with the Grand River. Ada is the corporate home of Alticor and its subsidiary company Amway. There are several parks in the area, including Roselle Park, Seidman Park, and the Grand River Nature Area. Frederik Meijer Gardens and Cannonsburg Ski Area are both just a short drive away. The Ada Covered Bridge, which was built back in 1867, sits over the Thornapple River. It is one of only nine that remain standing in Michigan. There is also a dam located near the bridge.
